The opening verse places her alone in her house, kneeling on the floor, deciding to believe the prophet from the south. Not in a meeting, not in a community, not surrounded by other believers. By herself. The faith that carries her through five years of waiting was born in private, on a floor, in a quiet room. The album’s most domestic act of faith.

The album’s most lived-in image of waiting. Some couples mark anniversaries or children’s heights. This couple marked the years they were waiting for Christ. The careful listener feels how a generation of believers actually lived — counting the years on something they could touch, watching their children grow up under a promise that had not yet come.

Everything I’d held was something I had built

The bridge’s hardest line. A lifelong believer briefly admitting on the night she was about to die that her faith might be a structure of her own making. The song lets her almost-doubt be real.
